Clinging = suffering… what happens when you let go of all thoughts? New MJ Awakening Blog

let go

What am “I” holding onto in this moment? NOTICE! Right now. Become AWARE. Because if there is an “I” present, there will be (usually unconsciously) clinging or trying to hold on to something. E.g., a precious identity, a self thought, an other thought, a feeling, a past memory, a future event, an object, a person, a place, etc.

Let go of everything. Now notice what is still being held onto. Now let go of that. Now notice what is still being held onto. Now let go of that… don’t stop until “you’ve” let go of everything. Now let go of “you.”

Have you ever come back to a spiritual teacher and suddenly heard them in a new, deeper, more profound way?

I heard Vernon Howard several years ago but he didn’t knock me over (because I understood so little of what he was actually saying). However, now? Now I find his teaching to be one of the most direct and compassionate, because he doesn’t BS around one iota.

You are not what you think you are, you are not the imposter self that you currently take yourself to be. What’s more, you are in love with your imposter self and thus your suffering continues right up to this very moment!

That until you are 100% clear that YOU are the problem, no one else, the suffering will continue. Only when you admit you are totally helpless and clueless and can do nothing whatsoever via your own power… when you at long last give it up totally and completely, that is the first step towards real freedom. “I can of mine own self do nothing.” -John 5:30

Q: What does it mean to IDENTIFY with the mind? New MJ Awakening Blog

Q: What does it mean to IDENTIFY with the mind?

MICHAEL: It means to forget that you are Awareness and only ever Awareness/present aliveness, and mistake yourself for a mind projection, such as a thought, feeling, idea, sensation, story, belief, opinion, etc.

You are ever the silent observer, never the observed. You are what is aware of the mind, the mind is not aware of You. As Mooji says, “You can exist without the psychological mind, but it cannot exist without You.”

You are ever the silent light that shines/illuminates the streaming transitory play of Maya. You have no beginning or end… You simply are.

Genuine freedom is beyond all words/concepts/thoughts/beliefs about freedom… it simply IS. New MJ Awakening Blog

freedom

“Freedom is greatly more than the mere freedom from pain, sickness, anxiety, lack and the like. Genuine freedom is freedom to be. It is freedom to be one’s own God-created Self. It is not a reaction against something. It is not even freedom from troubling conditions such as those I have just mentioned.

Genuine freedom is infinitely more than a human reaction against discordant situations. Genuine freedom is not a reaction against some thing. It is even more than freedom from hatred, jealousy, or war. Freedom is. Freedom is being one’s spiritual Identity. It is being one’s Self.

Freedom is not being free to replace one’s human condition for another seemingly better human condition. For instance, it is much more than merely replacing sickness with health, violence with nonviolence, or fear with confidence. We are not even free to engage in the fruitless activity of comparing our freedom or lack of freedom with another’s freedom or lack of it.

In short, freedom is not a replacement of one view of life with another view of life, for to be spiritually free is to be free from comparison.”

-W. Norman Cooper (from, THE NON-THINKING SELF)

If no thought applies to the knower of thought, who do they actually apply to?? New MJ Awakening Blog

Autumn Leaves Background - Wallpapers

How can ANY thought change what you already inherently are and have always been? For example, a thought shows up, “I am bad,” and then a thought shows up, “I am good.” Which is actually true for THAT that is aware of ALL thoughts? How can ANY thought apply to the knower of thought? And if no thought applies to the knower of thought, who do they actually apply to??

The fact is the map in your head DOES NOT MATCH THE TERRITORY… new MJ Awakening Blog

In order to have a “problem,” the mind must be able to define it. It can’t have a problem without defining specifically what it thinks the problem is. But what if the mind’s conceptual definitions don’t match reality? In other words, what if the map doesn’t actually match the territory?

If this turns out to be the case, but we stubbornly cling to the map in our head, i.e., “this is how the world works (or should work),” out of habit or because “we’ve always done it this way,” or “because it’s how we’ve been taught,” we are going to be constantly frustrated, confused, angry, etc. AND NOT KNOW WHY!?

The fact is the map in your head DOES NOT MATCH THE TERRITORY because what THIS experience is made of is undefinable. For example, the word “bird” is not what is flying across the sky. But as soon as the mind label’s it “bird”, we think we know what it is and quickly move on to the next thing.

Waking up is realizing that none of our definitions actually define reality simply because reality is undefinable. Seeing this clearly, we can begin to relax our attachment to words and begin to take in THIS (whatever is currently arising) ever-present and endlessly changing experience nakedly and directly.

It’s the difference between trying to define and figure what each “flash” in a fireworks show “means,” versus simply enjoying the magical and mysterious display in all its infinite colors, shapes, and sounds. The former creates a sense of frustration and confusion and the latter a sense of awe and wonderment of the total unfathomablity of it all.

You have as much control over your heart pumping as you do your thoughts… new MJ Awakening Blog

MICHAEL: Roger on noticing that your thoughts, like your heart pumping, are not under your control…

“I’ve never been controlling all of these things that I thought I was controlling. So we don’t have any question about the fact that we are not pumping the heart, that’s quite obvious to us. And we’re not cleansing the blood… all that’s happening automatically.

But there are certain functions that don’t appear to be as automatic as some other functions; thinking in particular. Thinking is a function that we are convinced is my doing. I am the thinker and they are my thoughts. And as a result of my thoughts they’re my actions. Thinking is as biological as the heart pumping.”

Notice… Awareness doesn’t change when thoughts change. Awareness doesn’t change when feelings change. Awareness doesn’t come or go or become more or less. Awareness remains unaffected by content just like the sky remains unaffected by the weather. Stay as you are and have always been since before the body took its first breath.

The mind can’t tell you what you are… new MJ Awakening Pic Quote

It’s one thing to notice that the “outside” world can’t tell you what you are, but it’s another to notice that your own mind can’t either. Why? Where did your mind get everything it knows from? That’s right, the outside world.
