ATMAN: In this ever-changing world there is one changeless being as witness of these changes. This permanent ever-seeing being is Atman.

SEEN: This comprises everything other than Atman, such as objects of the senses, the senses, the mind, the Buddhi (intellect).

MICHAEL: Discriminate between the seer and the seen. Habitually mistaking ourselves for the seen, for a changing appearance, we suffer because what changes isn’t stable. Atman has no parts. It is whole and complete. Keep your attention silently within on the changeless Atman, and let the impersonal dream unfold as its destined and be happy.

SATSANG NOTES

1. Nothing is personal. You have a thought, I have a thought.
You’ve had jealousy, I’ve had jealousy. We’ve all had jealousy.
Nobody owns jealousy.

2. Even if “you” feel it’s personal, that quality of being “you”… THAT’S not personal, because we all have it.

3. You don’t need to believe your thoughts… Why do you need to believe your thoughts? We go to our thoughts because we believe they have value.

4. What’s aware of what you just said?

5. Nothing is what you think it is. That’s the problem with going to your mind and conceptualizing something. It ain’t really that way! It’s one perspective of potentially thousands of perspectives, or millions. And yet we get identified with that one perspective and say, “This is how it is.”

6. It’s amazing how much suffering we’re willing to endure to hang
on to our identity. At a certain point, it can dawn on you, it’s
too big a price to pay.

7. If you have a story, you’re going to defend it.

8. The hardest thing to accept is that you’re already whole and complete.

9. Your thoughts don’t know who you are.

10. What you are was not born.

11. The entity/persona (not the body) that you believe you are… how did it get here?

12. You don’t know how you got here because there isn’t anything actually here.

SUFFERING happens when we mistake the UNIVERSAL for PERSONAL

So for example, two couples go on a picnic and it starts to rain. One couple gets upset because the rain has ruined “their picnic.” The other couple, understanding that rain is not personal, not “theirs” and thus not under their control, laugh and simply move on to another activity without any suffering.

Thus true spirituality is immensely practical because it’s simply seeing things as they actually are versus how we were taught or imagined them to be.

Even the “me” we take ourselves to be isn’t personal, since everyone appears to have one! So, even “me” is Universal and does not belong to “me”! (Note that what you call “me,” I call “other” and what I call “me,” you call “other,” so which are we, a “me” or an “other”!? It all depends on our point-of-view, so neither are absolutely true!)

Therefore, there’s nothing to hold on to or achieve since no personal gain or loss is possible in a worldly dream that is Universal by nature. In other words, things appear to happen, but nobody (nothing personal) is making them happen. All is the movement of the One impersonal Universal Consciousness.

NAMA RUPA (Name and Form) remind’s us that no name and form is unique to us or belongs to us. For example, teeth are not mine, but Universal. So I cannot claim them as mine. They are not my teeth, they are just teeth. Even calling them “teeth” was not my idea!

Take any other word… Science, Psychology, Sports, Sex, Love, Hate, Fear, Sky, Ocean, Land, Hair, Blood, Bones, Lungs, Air, Grass, Body, Sister, Father, Mother, Brother, Animals, People, World, Universe, God, Brahman, etc. Are not all words Universal? Where is the personal? Personal is in imagination. But even imagination I did not create!

“What we own owns us!”

As soon as I believe I own something, doesn’t matter what it is, the energy of “ownership” appears in my mind, isn’t it? And now, once the belief in ownership is operating, if that object becomes damaged or destroyed (and it will eventually as all objects are impermanent), I will suffer because I am under the false notion that it belonged to me.

“You have created nothing, but rather are a creation along with everything else!”

The reality is nothing is mine, including this body-mind instrument I now write these words through.

Hold onto Nothing.

Be Free.

Be.
